5 of My Healthy Morning Habits

There is nothing worse than waking up on the wrong side of the bed… trust me it happens to me way too often and it just sets a horrible mood for the rest of the day. Majority of the time I end up not crossing anything off of my to-do list and wasting a whole day lying around in my pajamas, which I must admit is okay on a Sunday… but not any other day.

Although you may not believe it, most people are more productive in the morning and if they set themselves to it they can get most of their tasks completed within a few hours and still have the rest of their afternoon and evening to relax and enjoy with friends and family.  The first few minutes of your morning are the most vital moments in assuring you are as positive and productive as you can be, to start your day you must completely own your morning.

Although I can admit to not always sticking to these healthy habits I always try my best to even complete a few as it always makes me ready for my day!

15 MINUTES OF NO SCREEN TIME

It is said that over 80% of people grab some form of electronic device as soon as they wake up and then often find themselves scrolling for up to half an hour before realising they have to get showered and ready for work! And on the weekends it turns into the entire morning and afternoon and without realising it you’ve missed breakfast and by the time your ready for the day it’s late afternoon – a day wasted!

During the week I set myself a single alarm, making sure it’s single is very important as it means you 100% have to wake up – truth being told I have never snoozed an alarm in my life! Once you get yourself into the habit of waking straight up and getting on with your day, it makes it so much easier to wake up and feel driven to get work done.

And once your alarm goes off, try your hardest not togo straight to your texts, emails or socials and give yourself a minimum of 15 minutes to do something else. Whether that be reading your current novel, going for a shower or making yourself a cuppa and healthy breakfast – always make it something you can do whilst leaving your phone on your bedside table. Rather than spending 30 minutes catching up on the night before, start your day focusing on the day ahead of you and make sure you prepare yourself in best way possible!

EAT A BIG HEALTHY BREAKFAST

There is no denying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, yet just under 50% of people eat breakfast on a daily basis. Breakfast gives you the energy you need for the morning and it essentially switches on your brain – it’s like fuel – without it your body and mind won’t work very well.

When I wake up I always find that i’m soooo hungry and can’t wait to make some food! My normal breakfast consists of a couple slices of toast and a yoghurt or two, but if i’m feeling adventurous i’ll make myself some porridge and go crazy with fruit and nut toppings! My favourite’s are raspberries, strawberries, peanut granola and sometimes peanut butter. It’s extremely filling and I find myself not needing to snack at all – lasting all the way to lunch time.

DRINK LOADS OF WATER

Over the course of your night your body becomes very dehydrated. Which is why it’s important to ensure that you drink at least 500ml in the morning time – YES I know that seems like a lot, but it’s super easy to do and will make you feel 100x better. If you don’t drink water in the morning you may find yourself getting a headache quite quickly, let’s be honest nobody wants a headache at 8am knowing they have a full working day ahead of them! In my opinion there is nothing worse.

There are many ways to ensure that you drink the correct amount of water in a day. Try typing “water tracker” or “water reminder” into your play/app store and you will find endless amounts of apps to help you keep on track of your water intake – as of course, the majority of your body is made from water.

GET SOME FRESH AIR

Okay so, if you don’t have work on this particular day or don’t have a reason to go outside, GET OUT! Even if it is only a 5-10 minute walk, it can make all the difference when it comes to your health and your mind. I always find that if I stay indoors all day, I feel stuffy and gross and overall, quite disgusting! Fresh air has many health benefits such as strengthening your immune system, improving your blood pressure and heart rate and brings more oxygen into your system which genuinely helps everything. There is nothing fresh air can’t do!

Fresh air helps me personally with my creativity and motivation. If i’m stuck on something I can go get five minutes of air and I can be full of ideas instantly. It always takes me ages to convince myself a walk is what I need – but I never regret it! It never fails to improve my mood.

WRITE A REALISTIC TO-DO LIST

I always find writing a super long to-do list can actually add a huge weight on my shoulders and I spend the day constantly thinking about crossing something off of it. So instead of writing down a massive list which I know inevitably will never be completed in a day, I think about the main things I must do and write them down – say 5 things or so- that I know I’m able to complete! And once those are finished I can think about the other small tasks.

Whichever way you choose to write your to-do list, it’s always a healthy way to start your day, instead of saying “okay I need to remember to do this today” and then come to the realisation as you are about to crash for the evening that you forgot to do something vital, you have it written down! meaning there are very minimal chances of you forgetting to do it!
